Just a Distraction by Deb Goodman: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

It was supposed to be one night.

When I spontaneously enlist a super hot customer to play a prank on my cranky boss, it seems like the perfect, momentary distraction from my life’s focus—starting fresh with my son and becoming a nurse.
As a single mom, things haven’t been easy. But nothing’s going to stop me from achieving my goals. Especially not this handsome stranger.
Which is why we agree never to see each other again.
Except, fast-forward six months, and guess who walks through the door? My boss’s brother, Milo Tate—wearing that same devastating smile, like fate’s playing some kind of joke.
But I cannot become involved—not with anyone. I refuse to give up my dreams for a man.
Besides, love and I? We don’t mix.
I can’t fall prey to my family curse, the one that basically ensures that love won’t last—that love’s going to hurt.
Too bad Milo is making it his mission to prove me wrong.

Just a Distraction is a “he falls first,” different worlds, single mom story with all of the swoon and none of the spice!

Deb Goodman’s obsession with the written word started at age three, when she realized the old-timey newsprint wallpaper in her family’s bathroom had actual words on it. The only problem? By the time she learned to read a couple of years later, the wallpaper had been replaced with something else—boring, non-worded wallpaper—and to this day, she still doesn’t know what it said.

Now, she and her husband and four children live in Utah. They love sports, music, and doing slightly insulting, pretend voices for their little shorkie, Mavis.

Deb writes funny, small-town romance that you won’t need to shield your kids’ eyes from. Writing lovey dovey books comes naturally to Deb since, to her, there’s nothing better than reading and writing about how two people fall in love.

Book Review

Just a Distraction is the sixth book in the Tate Brothers series. While those who have read the previous books will have a better understanding of the Tate family dynamics, I do think this could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.

Oh, Milo and Rose! What a sweet story this was! Right from the start these two drew me in with a prank on her boss/ex and a night of platonic fun... that didn't quite go quite as expected. I found myself laughing out loud at the... well, we'll just call it a predicament... that Milo found himself in by the end. The first of many moments throughout that had me laughing! Six months later, they find themselves back in the same place and all that chemistry (that was certainly NOT platonic) was still there... but so were the reasons she had for not being together. I love a MMC who falls hard and fast, and Milo certainly does just that. They certainly have some big obstacles to work through, but I loved how very supportive they were of each other's dreams and goals throughout the story. And the way Milo was with her son? Oh my goodness, he really was just the sweetest. I truly couldn't get enough of these two!

Just a Distraction is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
