Make Mine Sweet by Genny Carrick: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

My heart's had a No Trespassing sign on it for years, but my next-door neighbor is tempting me to lay out a welcome mat

When I took my friend’s offer of cheap rent for me and my five-year-old son, I knew it came with a reclusive neighbor attached. I just didn’t realize he’s the same guy I adored from afar fifteen years ago.

Back then, Ian was all smiles and flirty banter, and my teenage heart couldn’t help but fall. Now? He’s a grouch who’s more likely to glare at me than accept my neighborly offers of fresh cupcakes from my bakery. This version of Ian wouldn’t know flirty banter if it bit him in the man bun.

It’s just as well, since my hopes for my love life burnt to a crisp along with my last relationship. I can’t risk my heart again, not when my son’s happiness is on the line, too.

But when I need last-minute childcare for my son, I can’t believe Ian volunteers. Even more unbelievable is how quickly the two bond over a shared love of his dog and silly jokes.

It turns out the grumpy man still has a surprisingly sweet center. And when his devastating smile returns? Protecting my heart is more important than ever.

Make Mine Sweet is a grumpy-sunshine slow burn rom-com with sizzling kisses but no spice. The Love in Sunshine books can be enjoyed in any order.

Book Review

Make Mine Sweet is the third book in the Love in Sunshine series. While there may be brief mentions of characters from previous books, this could absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

I have loved every single book in this series so far... but this might just be my new favorite. Ian and Tess were just absolute perfection. He was my favorite kind of grump... grumpy, yes... but not without reason and once Tess (and her son) starts to break down his walls, we see that he's not ALL grump. These two had such an amazing chemistry between them, and I love how he wanted to take care of her... the person usually taking care of everyone else. His relationship with August was equally sweet and I couldn't help but fall for this grumpy pirate right along with Tess. Oh yes, the pirate references throughout this story were the absolute best too and I absolutely couldn't get enough of them.  It was such a sweet and tender story but still had those laugh out loud moments to balance it out. If you love a good grumpy/sunshine or single mom romance, you won't want to miss it. I absolutely couldn't put this one down!

Make Mine Sweet is a closed-door romance with kisses only and minimal minor language.
