Misfortune and Mr. Right by Savannah Scott: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

When your nemesis is your next-door neighbor, falling for him is not part of the plan … but fate may have other ideas.

Olivia Pennington has spent her whole life competing with Logan Alexander—and losing. From spelling bees to science fairs, he’s always been one step ahead, snagging the trophies, titles, accolades, and now … he’s after the promotion she desperately wanted. As if that’s not bad enough, Logan also moved into the apartment she had her heart set on.

Logan’s been secretly falling in love with Olivia since the third grade. His strategy? Stay close, win her over. But, the more he foisted himself on her, the bigger mess he made. Now Logan’s back in town, and he’s determined to settle the score. He’s over his crush, so he thinks. And he just wants to bury the hatchet, preferably not by Olivia chucking it at him.

When a string of mysterious fortune cookies starts appearing, hinting at a match between Logan and Olivia, Logan’s all in. Olivia? Not so much.

But in this building, fate isn’t merely a suggestion—it’s practically written on the walls. If you thought Mr. Darcy had a hard time convincing Elizabeth of his good intentions, just wait until you watch Logan attempt to win Olivia’s heart—one stubborn, banter-filled battle at a time.

Enemies-to-lovers meets a sprinkle of magic in this laugh-out-loud, heartfelt romcom with a Pride and Prejudice vibe.

Misfortune and Mr. Right is a standalone book in the Only Magic in the Building series. These whimsical romance books are all set in the same historic building, which has a habit of playing matchmaker with its residents. There are light magical elements, but no spells, shifters, or dark magic of any kind. And the romance is closed door, which means kissing only.

The Author

Savannah Scott loves writing happily-ever-after romcoms with scenes where kisses make you melt. Her characters feel like long lost friends, and the settings make you want to take off on a road trip to visit.

You will smile. You will laugh. Yes. You will need coffee because you stayed up past your bedtime reading. Sorry, not sorry.

If you can’t find Savannah, she’s probably hiding with a book, dancing Zumba, or going a little crazy being the fun carpool mom who cranks the tunes and always goes through the drive-thru for copious amounts of sugar and fat on the way home from school.

(Can you keep a secret? I thought so. Savannah also writes as Patty H Scott, which is the Clark Kent to her Superman. If you like clean romance, check out Patty's books.)

Book Review

Misfortune and Mr. Right is the fourth book in the Only Magic in the Building series. This is an interconnected, multi-author series, but all books can be enjoyed as standalones or in any order.

Savannah Scott never fails to deliver stories that are full of heart and will keep me smiling... and when you add some whimsical magic into it? Even better! I am absolutely loving this series so far and am enjoying seeing all the unique and magical ways this building plays matchmaker to its tenants... this time, that comes in the form of some mysterious fortune cookies that keep showing up with some rather interesting and pointed messages. This was such a cute idea and added just the right amount of whimsical touch to this enemies to lovers romance. Logan and Olivia were high school rivals, with Olivia always seeming to come in second place to his first. Needless to say, when he shows up at her workplace AND in the apartment that she was trying to get, she's less than thrilled to see him again. I couldn't help but be drawn right into their story with all their competitive banter and sweet chemistry. More than anything though, I loved seeing their growth throughout the story. This was another fantastic addition to the series and one that I absolutely loved!

Misfortune and Mr. Right is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. While the story does have some magical elements, it is lighter and more whimsical with no spells or dark magic of any kind.
