Have you watched The Chosen yet?

With over 250 million viewers (as of 7/27/24), The Chosen is one of the most-watched shows in the world... so there's a good chance many of you have already watched this groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season series shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings.

And The Chosen is back just in time for Holy Week and is the must see event of the Easter season. Take a look:

The table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last. Shot in a beautiful cinematic format, The Chosen: Last Supper brings the most pivotal week in history to audiences in this special three-part theatrical release.

I was given the opportunity to check out the first episode of part one to share my thoughts. Full disclosure--- while I have watched some episodes here and there of this show, I really don't watch all that much television at all, and as such am not caught up on the entirety of the show so far. Of course, being familiar with the events from the Bible, I have found I haven't had any trouble picking up wherever I tune in. One of the things that I really appreciate about this show is that it does stay true to the Bible. Yes, there are some creative liberties taken--- conversations that take place that aren't specifically laid out in the Bible (because let's be honest, not every single moment of Jesus' or the disciples lives are written out), but it keeps with the key points and even verses, while also allowing these figures who we are all familiar with to come to life in a new way that makes them feel relatable. Perhaps even encouraging those who have not read the Bible, to pick it up and do so. I thought this episode reflected that well and was so beautifully done... and left me wanting to see what was going to see how the story was going to play out on screen! Whether you've been a fan of The Chosen from the beginning, or are jumping in just in time for Easter, this is certainly a beautiful show worth watching.
