Partnering with the Artist by Camilla Evergreen: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Becoming millionaire comic artist Zakery Bachelor’s muse was not on my bucket list.

Though, to be fair, neither was tumbling into his lap while running from my ex. At a comic con. In a furry costume disguise.

When Zakery suggests we fake date for a month and make an appearance at a Creator’s Ball to prove something to my ex, I oblige for the sake of closure. I don’t expect the resulting craft store dates, endearing nicknames, or realization that my last relationship wasn’t just a trainwreck—it was abusive.

But the more I learn about Zakery and his family’s dark past, the more I understand what real love looks like, and the harder it is to pretend I don’t have feelings for him.

This partnership may have started with a con; however, I think it’s ending with a wedding.

~
This is a fake dating, friends to lovers romcom with plenty of sizzle, yet none of the spice. Fall in love with he falls first swoon, and enjoy the humorous world of Sunset, West Virginia.

The Author

Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.

Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.

Book Review

Partnering with the Artist is the second book in The Bachelor Brothers series. While those who have read the previous book may have a little more understanding of the brothers' dynamic, I do think this one could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.

If you've read any books by Camilla Evergreen, you probably already know that she is an absolutely master at creating MMC who are absolutely, completely gone for their FMC... in ways that at some times could come across like red flags... if they weren't also so unbelievably sweet (and all about boundaries, consent and communication... so you know, complete green flags!). They fall hard and they fall fast... and aren't generally all that shy about it! Truly, her characters are all so unique and fun and I enjoy them all, but it's those MMCs that will always keep me coming back. Zakery (and the book as a whole) was no exception. I just loved how he loved her... even if he wasn't really sure what that looked like due to his past trauma. Zakery and Maelin had a sweet chemistry. While their love story was anything but typical (and I'll admit, I was a little uncertain after reading the author's note and first chapter), it was one that I very much enjoyed in the end.

Partnering with the Artist is a closed-door romance with kisses only but does have a bit of innuendo/discussions about sex and minimal minor language as well. There is mention of abuse in the past, with no specific details given. As always, Camilla does a great job of letting readers know what to expect and I always highly encourage reading that note to decide if it's for you.
