The Escape Plan by Katie Bailey: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

When there’s no escaping the plans life has for you…

Beckett McCarthy’s beloved Gran always taught him to find magic in mundane, everyday things. But since she died, he no longer feels any magic.

In fact, he feels nothing at all.

So, when he has an opportunity to spend a summer abroad in Serendipity Springs, he’s expecting little more than a change in scenery.

Until Keeley Roberts—quite literally—falls into his life.

From their first chaotic encounter in a stuck elevator, Beckett and Keeley can’t seem to stay apart.

Not that Becks is complaining. He’s enchanted by his beautiful, feisty new neighbor; drawn to her in a way he can’t explain... until they discover an invisible string that’s been connecting them all this time.

It’s as if fate itself has conspired to bring them together.

But with Beckett soon returning to Ireland and Keeley’s dream job hanging by a thread, is fate enough to keep their love alive… or will they need a little magic?

The Escape Plan is a standalone book in the Only Magic in the Building series. These closed door, whimsical romance books are all set in the same historic building, which has a habit of playing matchmaker with its residents. There are light magical elements, but no spells, shifters, or dark magic of any kind.

The Author

Katie Bailey is an Amazon top 25 bestselling author of rom coms with relatable characters and tons of chemistry. Her aim with every new love story she writes is to give readers a good laugh, maybe even a bit of a cry, but definitely leave them with a new book boyfriend.

When she’s not busy writing, Katie spends her time chasing twin tornado littles, cursing the cold Canadian winters she endures each year, chugging coffee by the bucketload, and crushing on her husband, who’s the real life inspiration behind all of the fictional men she’s written.

Book Review

The Escape Plan is the eighth book in the Only Magic in the Building series. This is an interconnected multi-author series with all books being able to be enjoyed as standalones. That said, it might be best to save this one for last as there were a few mentions of past characters that could have very minor spoilers.

I must admit, I'm a little sad to see this series end... I've absolutely loved adding this bit of whimsy to my reading! But what a way to end it on a high note! Simply put, I absolutely adored everything about this one! First of all, an Irish MMC and all the Irish lore you can imagine (mixed with that whimsical magic from The Serendipity that I've already come to love)!? Yes, please! I loved it all so much. The chemistry between these two was flying off the pages right from that very first awkward encounter. And that first (watery) kiss!? Oh. My. Goodness. It was all just so good. I loved these two together and seeing all the ways fate and the building kept throwing them together (and keeping them stuck there). There were truly so many things to love... but I don't want to give anything away so you can experience it for yourself... trust me, you're going to want to!

The Escape Plan is a closed-door romance with kisses only and minimal minor language. Again, there is magic, but like the rest of the series it is whimsical and fun, no spells or darkness at all.
