Charlotte Kane has always dreamed of a different life, one where she isn’t living paycheck to paycheck. An existence worlds away from the chaos of her own. Then her estranged mother dies, and Charlotte makes a stunning discovery—she has an identical twin who was given up for adoption.

Acelynn Benedict is polished, successful and seems to have everything Charlotte yearns for—a wealthy, doting family in Savannah, a handsome boyfriend, a great career. She’s just as surprised as Charlotte to learn she has a sister. But when tragedy hits and Charlotte is forced to assume Acelynn’s identity in a desperate moment, she uncovers something altogether darker…

No one in her sister’s life is quite who they seem to be. And every discovery leads Charlotte deeper into a web of deadly secrets. Charlotte may have wanted Acelynn’s life, yet now that she’s living it, she wants out. But if she reveals the truth about herself, it will mean returning to her old life—and she’s already a dead woman there.

Author Interview

Welcome, Jessica! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book The Other Sister.

Can you share 5 random facts about yourself that we won’t find in your bio?

I’m terrified of open heights. Once I got stuck on my fridge cleaning it and had my cell in my pocket. I had to call my husband to come home and get me down!

I’ve ridden elephants in Thailand—it was terribly scary and unsafe!

I once crashed into a cop car, shattering his window onto his lap. When other cops showed up, I asked if he was hurt and the cop friend said, “Just his ego!” LOL It was his fault.

I love Perrier and sparkling water before it became trendy. I started by sneaking my mom’s Alka-Seltzer as a child, when she had indigestion.

I rode in the clown car as a child when we visited Barnum & Bailey Circus.

When did you first discover you had a passion for writing? I’m not sure when I knew I was passionate about writing but I’ve always had a passion for storytelling! From playing “house” with my baby dolls to story telling with my Barbies.

Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind The Other Sister? In 2012 I watched the CW show The Ringer and I knew I wanted to write a story about twins too!

As a suspense/thriller writer, what is the most incriminating research we’d find in your search history? It varies from day to day. I learned to do all my research on the dark web where it’s untraceable. Of course, I’m kidding! I’ve done quite a lot of research on memory lately so I feel like they might think I’m about to create a cult! LOL

In your stories, you often dig deep into some really dark, difficult topics– what do you do to protect your mental health when doing so? I start every single day in THE WORD and prayer. If I’m steeped in God’s word, then my own words don’t take such a toll and I know that HOPE is coming soon for these characters so we can go through it knowing it all ends well. I also have my favorite worship playlists to listen to on writing breaks.

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? Being real to the characters which meant knowing at times, Charlotte wouldn’t be so likable because she was morally gray. But to do anything else wouldn’t be true to who she was and who she was becoming.

The most rewarding? Receiving messages from early readers and telling me that God really spoke to them about a particular theme, truth, or analogy. Nothing better than that!

If you could describe your main character(s) in just three words each, what would those words be? Tough, Lost, Survivor.

What do you hope readers will take away from the book? That want is an open grave that constantly needs filled which means, beloved, find your contentment in Christ. Anything else leads to sin and consequences, some brutal.
